About Taunyee
I love the feel of clay in my hands. Of how I can take that clay and watch as a face emerges, a bird flies, a woman holds up the moon. I love the process of creation, of finding the balance between that creative spark, the story I want to share, and the logistics of having it all not blow up in the kiln! I love the challenge of balancing my inspiration, which knows no bounds, and the very real limitations of my fledging engineer brain.
My inspiration is all around me, in nature and animals, in poetry, mythology, music, in the story of our ancestors and our own personal becoming. Sometimes fanciful, sometimes serious, there will be a certain story I wish to express in the tilt of a head or expression in the eyes. Everything inspires me!
My history of being a painter and mixed media artist finds its way into my ceramics. The clay in vessel form, becomes a canvas in which to experiment with colour and design. I love experimenting with underglaze techniques and sgraffito. I sometimes find hand building bowls and pots more challenging than sculpture, but always exciting!
